Abstract
370,155. Electrically-actuated valves. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., Babcock House, Farringdon Street, London.-(Babcock & Wilcox Co. ; 85, Liberty Street, New York, U:S.A.) March 10, 1931, No. 7436. [Class 135.] An electric-motor operated three-way valve 25 forms part. of a plant wherein a steam generator 10 is connected. to a turbine 24 or other prime mover by a pipe 23 so that the flow of steam is directed either to the turbine or to a condenser 21 or elsewhere in accordance with the temperature of the steam. A thermostat 30 controls the operation of the stop valve 25 so that only steam within a certain temperature range is admitted to the turbine, steam of other temperatures being byepassed. The thermostat is linked to a bell crank with an arm 32, which acts as a switch, and when moved to either right or left on a rise or fall in temperature of the steam outside the prescribed range, the arm closes a circuit to start up the motor 35. The motor, through gearing, moves the spindle of the valve 25 so that steam is byepassed from the turbine. An electric relay 39 stops the motor when the valve is seated. The valve is returned to normal position by hand.
