Abstract
369,924. Indirectly heated steam boilers. BAUMANN, K., Northwoodhouse, Barnfield, Urmston, Lancashire. Dec. 19, 1930, No. 38361. [Class 123 (ii).] Boilers of the type described in Specifications 340,295, 340,520, 342,361, 343,594, 343,595, 358,985, 359,400, and 369,927 have a number of water-tubes 4a, 4b which pass across the top of the combustion chamber 1, and are connected at one end to a. collector 5 and at the other to a bottom header 21 which is in turn connected by downcomers 22 to the boiler drum 10. Some water-tubes 7, 8, 9 pass across only a portion of the top of the combustion chamber and connect the drum 10 to the collector which is connected by wall tubes 3 to a bottom header 23 connected by downcomers 24 to the drum 10. In modifications a collector 5a is disposed between drum 10 and header 21, to which tube rows 4, 9 are connected and which is connected to the bottom header by tubes 4c. The surface type evaporator 16 may be replaced by one of direct contact type or may be constituted by the boiler drum. A two-stage turbine &c. may receive high and low-pressure steam from evaporator and boiler drum circuits respectively or steam from an evaporator may reheat steam passing from one stage to another. Or exhaust from one stage may be superheated in an element in the flue 12.
