Abstract

369,925. Indirectly heated steam boilers. BAUMANN, K., Northwoodhouse, Barnfield, Urmston, Lancashire. Dec. 19, 1930, No. 38362. [Class 123 (ii).] Boilers of the type described in Specifications 340,295 (Figs. 7 .. 11, 13), 342,361 (Figs. 2 .. 6 8), 343,594 (Figs. 3 .. 12, 15, 16), 343,595 (Figs. 1 .. 5, 7), 358,985, 359,400 (Figs. 1 .. 5, 7), and 369,927 have a number of watertubes passing across the top of the combustion chamber and connected to collectors 5 which are connected to bottom headers 26 and these latter are in turn connected to the boiler drum by downcomers 27 ; accessories such as an economizer 13 and air preheater 14 are disposed over the boiler, combustion products passing through a flue over the top of the superheater chamber. The surface type evaporator 19 may be replaced by one of direct contact type or may be constituted by the boiler drum 10. In another arrangement providing two surface type evaporators, steam from the boiler drum after passing through the respective superheaters and heating elements, enters the low-pressure part of a twostage turbine &c., steam from the evaporators passing to the high-pressure stage. Or in plant as shown in the Figure steam from the evaporator may reheat steam passing from a high to a low stage of a turbine &c., such steam originating in the boiler drum. Or steam from the outlet of plant as shown in the Figure may be led to a high-pressure part of a multistage engine exhaust from which is superheated in an element disposed in a flue 12.
