Abstract
369,651. Automatic guns. FABRIQUE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE GUERRE, Herstal, Belgium. Dec. 16, 1930, No. 37990. Convention date, Dec. 16, 1929. [Class 92 (ii).] Escapement mechanism for retarding the speed of firing of automatic guns, and of the kind described in Specification 222,081, [Class 92 (ii), Ordnance &c.], co-operates with an auxiliary sear 5 independent of the trigger 8 controlling the main sear 6 and thereby prevents shock being transmitted to the operator's finger when the trigger is held pressed. In the form shown, the lever 2, mounted on a pivot pin 2a and connected to ratchet escapementmechanism as in the above-mentioned Specifica. tion, is held against the action of a spring in the position shown by a catch 4 engaging a projection 2c on the lever. The action slide is held in the rear position by the main sear 6 which engages a notch 7 and is released when the trigger is pulled, the notch 7 then moving slightly forward to engage the auxiliary sear 5 which also moves forward over its pivot pin 5b to release the catch 4. The forward end of the lever 2 then rises under the control of the escapement mechanism and the projection 2c releases the auxiliary sear 5 to close and fire the gun. The rack 3a of the escapement mechanism is readily attached to the lever 2 in the horizontal position by providing a hooked connection 3m. The rate of firing can be varied by a screw on the escapement-pawl 3d which adjusts its moment of inertia. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also describes, (1) a rotary safetv-bolt with three inclined surfaces, one of which locks the trigger, the second permits rise and fall of the lever 2 for retarded firing, and the third locks the lever 2 in the lowered position and holds the sear 5 out of engagement with the notch 7 for firing in bursts ; and (2) the removable cover for the escapement mechanism described in Specification 373,280. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
