Abstract
369,552. Valve modulating circuits. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Kaar, I. J. ; 10, Troy Road, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Sept. 20, 1930, No. 28158. Convention date, Sept. 20, 1929. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 40 (v).] An auxiliary valve 17 is arranged to take an increased load from the supply rectifier 8, 9, 10 when the load taken by the power amplifier 3 decreases, during non-keying periods, and vice versa, thus maintaining a steady voltage on the plate of the amplifier. Normally the impedance of the amplifier 3 is infinite and the total load is shared between the shunt resistance 13 and the plate-filament path of the auxiliary valve 17. When the signalling key 7 is down, the current through the amplifier increases ; but the resulting grid current passing through the resistance 18 increases the negative bias on the grid of the valve 17, and so reduces the current through that valve to an extent which counterbalances the increased current taken by the amplifier. The shift of the load from the amplifier 3 to the compensator 17 occurs without any time-lag, and therefore serves to prevent any distortion due to anode-voltage fluctuations in high-speed keying.
