368,827. Electric clocks. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and CLINKER, R. C., Tryfn, Bilton, near Rugby. Dec. 10, 1930, No. 37292. [Class 139.] Pendulums.-The pendulum 1 is driven by impulses derived from the interaction between currents in a coil 3 fixed thereto and the flux produced by a fixed coil 5 energized from A.C. supply mains. The pendulum carries a gravity operated contact arm 9 pivoted about an insulated pin 10 coacting with fixed contacts 13, 14. The coil 3 swings along the core 4 of coil 5, and when swinging to the left is short-circuited over the circuit 3, 12, 1, 8, 15, 13, 9, 11, 3 thereby being impelled to the left. During a part of the return swing the arm 9 and contact 14 connects a condenser 16 in series with the coil 3, the resultant phaseadvanced current therein producing an impulse to the right. Stops 17, 18 on the pendulum coact with the arm 9 to ensure that the impulses occur only during a part of each swing. The transmission between pendulum and wheel train is of any known kind, for example ratchet and pawl. According to the Provisional Specification contact 14 and condenser 16 may be dispensed with, one way impulses only being used, and the coil 3 may swing free of the core 4 at the left hand end of its movement so that there is zero current in coil 3 as contact 9 leaves 13.
