Abstract
368,584. Control of A. C. motors. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., 147, Queen Victoria Street, London.-(Cutler- Hammer Manufacturing Co. ; Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U.S.A.) May 4, 1931, No. 13092. [Class 38 (iii).] A synchronous motor M is started by closure of button 17 causing sequential closure of a relay 9, and switches 2, 1, the latter connecting the motor armature to a reduced voltage tapping on a transformer 3. Closure of switch 1 also causes energization of the operating coil of a relay 8, which however is restrained by a coil 14 until the armature current has decreased to a predetermined value, whereupon contacts 8b, 8c, 8d close in timed sequence, and effect operation of a relay 10, opening of switches 2, 1 and closure of switch 5. The latter connects. the motor armature to full line voltage, and opens the circuit of a heater 19a of a thermal relay 19 which would have de-energized relay 9 had switch 5 not been closed within a predetermined time of starting. Closure of contacts 8c, 8d respectively cause closure of switches 6, 7 to energize the field F and to short-circuit field resistance R.
