Abstract

392,490. Induction motors. INTERNATIONAL GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Inc., 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitõts-Ges.; 2, Friedrich Karl-Ufer, Berlin.) Jan. 16, 1933, No. 1453. Convention date, Jan. 16, 1932. [Class 35.] A thermal switch for switching out the auxiliary winding of a single phase induction motor after the motor has started, comprises a bimetallic strip 9 held in compression between resilient supports 16, 17 and carrying a conductor 13 which, in the cold position shown, bridges contacts 10, 11 in the circuit of an auxiliary winding 3. Current is supplied to the strip 9 by a transformer 7, 8 and when the strip is heated up it snaps across the dead-centre position and switches out the auxiliary winding 3 and disconnects the transformer. A push-button 18 is provided for returning the strip to its initial position. If, however, the strip is of a type which returns, on cooling, a resistance 19 is connected as shown in Fig. 1, so that after the switch has snapped across sufficient heating current is maintained to retain the switch in the open position.
