Abstract
368,290. Filters ; filtering - media. DOOLEY IMPROVEMENTS, Inc., Rock Island, Illinois, U.S.A. Sept. 26, 1930, No. 28880. Convention date, Oct. 17. 1929. [Class 46.] An oil filter, more particularly for filtering the fuel supplied to a burner, comprises a number of radial slotted discs spaced apart in parallel relationship and a fabric bag slipped over the framework and drawn by twine into the radial slots to form a number of vertical lobes. As shown, the slotted discs 7 are secured by screws 10a, 12 to a central pipe 1, which, at its upper end, is received in a gasket 56 and, at the lower end, is closed by the lower disc 7. The filter is contained in a can or casing 40 having a flange 41 secured to a complementary flange 46 by screws 57. The bottom closure 42 is provided with a drain plug 45. The oil is admitted to the filter through a pipe 49 and percolates through the fabric into the central pipe 1 and from thence to the exit pipe 52. The upper and lower discs 7 have central recesses 5 to receive the ends of the filter bag 6 gathered in by draw strings, the lower gatheredin portion being retained in place by a rib 44 on the lower closure 42. The filter bag is preferably formed from two fabrics, the outer fabric being of Canton flannel and the inner fabric of a harder lintless material such as organdie whereby the oil is filtered by the soft flannel, and the lint therefrom is filtered by the harder fabric. In a modification, Fig. 5, the discs 64 are spaced by tubes 68 threaded over securing bolts 69, the central pipe 60 being shortened.
