Abstract
367,128. Sizing, tinting, softening, and drying threads in bobbin-winding machines. PARCOFIL AKT.-GES., 20, Peterstrasse, and SCHWEIZER, E., 10, Neumuhlequai, both in Zurich, Switzerland. Jan. 19, 1931, No. 1766. [Class 120 (ii).] A bobbin-winding machine, especially for artificial silk, in which the spindle speed is influenced in order to obtain a uniform rate of feed of the thread, is provided with a sizing trough and a short drying tube surmounted by an exhaust hood. Tinting of the thread may be combined with the sizing process either by adding a tinting medium to the size or by tinting in a separate operation. Dyeing and softening operations may also be similarly combined with sizing. A thread 2 drawn from a doubling bobbin 1 passes over a guide roller 3 and a carrier roller 6 which revolves in a vessel 4 containing a sizing composition 5 comprising readily volatile constituents. The sized thread then passes over a guide roller 7, is dried by passing through a drying tube 8 provided with hot air from a tube 9 and surmounted by an exhaust hood 12 and finally wound as a bobbin 11 by a winder 10 giving a uniform rate of application of the thread.
