Abstract
367,088. Jib cranes &c. NASH, A. F., Ardua, Kingston Hill, Surrey. Dec. 17, 1930, No. 38096. [Class 78 (iv).] Overload indicating mechanism for cranes, derricks, &c. of the kind having a bell or other audible warning device has the bell &c. operated by the unwinding of a spring and has the spring adapted to be wound up by the normal operation of the crane. A spring-pressed rod 1 is connected to an eccentric sleeve at the jib-head. An indicator arm 4 mounted on a pivot 5 on the jib is also pivoted to the rod 1 which by a collar 6 and spring 8 acts on one end of a lever 11 mounted on a pin 12. The lower end of the lever 11 is connected to a dashpot 18 having a tell-tale ring 19 movable by the piston 15 and visible through a window 20, a resetting plunger 22 being provided. The upper end of the lever 11 carries a rod 24 having a slot 25 engaging a pin 26 on a lever 27 having a pawl 31 engaging a ratchet wheel 32. When the crane is loaded the slot 25 frees the pin 26 so that a spring 30 can rock the lever 27 to rotate the ratchet wheel and wind up a spring drum (not shown). Under overload a projection 47 on the lever 11 strikes and releases a pivoted detent 43 normally engaging an escapement anchor 39 so that the spring drum through gearing 38 operates the bell (not shown).
