[Class 94 (ii).] In a valve bag having a folded end comprising longitudinal flaps 10, 11 and end flaps 12, 13, a strip 15 of material, separate from the bag and adapted to form an inward extension of the valve, is adhered to and contacts with the inner faces of the flaps 10, 11 and the outer face of the flap 12. The bag is then creased and folded along the lines 16, the flaps 10, 11 being adhered together over their overlapping portions and also to the flap 13. In making the bag, the tubular blank, with its end folded as shown in Fig. 1, approaches a roller 21, Fig. 8, carrying counterweighted creasing blades 27 for forming the creases 16. Between the blades suction cups 28 are mounted and draw the lowermost strip from a pile 46 in a container 43 as they pass therebeneath, suction being applied at the appropriate moment through a pipe 29 leading from the cups, a central bore 30 in the shaft 23 of the roller, a connecting pile (not shown) and a valve 33 in communication with an exhausted chamber. A cam 36 on the shaft 23 engages a pivoted arm 35 connected to the valve to apply the suction, and remove it when the cups have carried the strip to a position above the end of the bag. The strip drops on to its place on the bag and is creased and pressed by the roller 21 and its co-operating roller.
