Abstract

364,028. Conical yarn supports. JONES, H. C. and NASMITH, F., of Universal Winding Co., Saville Street, Oxford Road, Manchester. Sept. 26, 1930, No. 28841. [Class 120 (iii).] Conical yarn supports for use in drum winding- machines are provided with peripheral bearing or driving portions of slightly larger diameter than the main yarn receiving surface, adapted to bear against the driving drum during the initial stages of winding. The cone has a corrugated yarn receiving surface 10, Fig. 1, and bearing surfaces 11, 12. An initial supply of yarn is wound by hand on the portion 14 of reduced diameter when the supply is to be used subsequently in warping creels or doubling machines. The yarn end is placed across the base in one of the grooves 18, Fig. 3, then wound round the portion 14, and finally carried across the bearing surface 12 in a groove 15. The grooves 18 are chamfered on the corners 19 traversed by the yarn, and the grooves 15, which may be several in number, are preferably spiral shaped.
