Abstract
363,893. Egg cartons. BANNING, E., 1, North La Salle Street, Chicago, U.S.A. Feb. 19, 1931, No. 5264. [Class 18.] An egg carton consists of two or more separable sections a, b, Figs. 1 and 2, assembled so that the walls 6 are in contact throughout their length, parts 4, 5 and 4<1>, 5<1> constituting the bottoms, and parts 3, 31 the outer walls, vertical partitions being formed by folding downwards flaps 19 which are held in position by tuck-in flaps 8. Parts 2, 21 form the tops which are secured by the engagement of teeth 16 with triangular portions 21 of the bases of the partitions 19. A tongue 22 engaging a slot 17 completes the fastening. The sections are secured together by overlapping flaps 11, 11<1> and 13, 13<1> which are stapled together, and are separated by cutting through these flaps. The creases in the bottoms 4, 5 and 4<1>, 51, which are corrugated transversely at the lower points of the eggs, allow the empty cartons to be collapsed sideways. In an alternative form, two sections are integral, as shown in Fig. 11, and fillers bent up from blanks shaped as shown in Fig. 13 are inserted.
