ONE-PIECE PATEBOARD BOX.
Application filed March 31, 1926. Serial No. 98,866.
M invention relates to boxes and more partlcularly to paste board boxes made of a single piece of material; and the ob ect is to provide boxes of a single piece of mate rial which are particularly useful for containing inatches and whichcan be manufactured at small expense. The advantage of such boxes is that the material or blank can be cut with a single stroke of a die without much loss of material. Another advantage of the boxes is the savingof time and expense in the manufacture and another advantage is the provision for service of the Other objects and advantages will be fully explained in the following description and the invention will be more particularly pointed out in the claims.
Reference is had to the accompanymg drawings which form a part of this application.
Fig. 1 is ablank, as out before folding, for making the improved box.
Fig. 2 is a plan view after the material has been folded and made ready for use.
Fig. 3 is a similar view after the detachable member has been removed and other parts turned upwardly ready for service.
Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the box,'as
shown in Fig. 3.
Similar characters of reference are used to indicate the same parts throughout the several views.
When the blank is cut, it is also perforated alon the lines 1 and 3 at the same time.
The box is provided with a top 2, bottom 4, a one-ply side member 5, two-ply side members 6 and 7, lateral end members 8, bottom extension end members 9, and top extension members 10. To. 'set up the box, first, turn the members 5 and 6 to vertical position or at right angles to the bottom 4, foldin along the marked lines 11. Then fold tie top member 2 along the marked line 12, bringin the same parallel to the bottom 4. Then fold the side members 7 along the marked line 13 down'on the outside of member 6 and paste thereto. Then lap the end members 8 towards each other. Then fold the end members 9 along the lines 14 up against ready for shipping.
the members v8. Then fold the end members I '10 down on the outside of the members 8 and paste thereto. This completes the box.
The matches may be placed inthe box before the member 2 is secured in place. The box, when made up as above described, is
\Vhen the box is to be made ready for service, raise the tab 14. This tab is cut at the same time the blank is cut. The tab 14 is torn entirely out along the perforations 1. The guard members 15 are then detached along the perforations 3 and then turned up to vertical positions to form guard members to prevent Waste of matches.
What I claim, is,
1. A one piece match box comprising a top, a bottom, and side members, flaps on said side members folded horizontallyto form in part end walls; end members integral with said bottom folded upwardly against said end flaps, end members integral with said top folded downwardly and attached to said upwardly folded members to complete the end walls, a-, tab in said top to be detached therefrom to I form a relatively long slot for insertion of a finger, and guard members forming parts of said top and to be partly detached therefrom to form a transverse slot for removal of matches and to be bent upwardly in line with the adjacent end of the box to prevent waste of matches.
2. A one piece match box comprising a top, a bottom, and side members, fla s on said side members folded horizontal y to form in part end walls, integral end flaps on sociated with said tab in forming said top and detachable from said tab and partly detachable from said top for forming a transverse slot for removal of matches and to be bent upwardly in line with the adjacent end of'the box to prevent waste of matches.
In testimony whereof, I set my hand, this 16th day of March, 1926.
