Abstract

363,478. Piston rings. MARSHALL, L. C., 365, Highland Avenue, Needham Heights, Massachusetts, U.S.A. Nov. 13, 1930, No. 34203. [Class 122 (i).] An axially resilient oil scraping ring comprises .several coaxial spring elements 35, 36, 36a, at least one of which is provided with circumferential recesses 31 in the faces abutting against adjacent rings. In another form, the inner ring has recesses on both abutting edges whilst the outer rings are plain. When two ring elements are used one or both rings may be recessed in their abutting faces. At least one ring in each case is formed of steel of at least 5 per cent carbon. The recesses are relatively staggered and are retained in position by a pin secured to one ring and passing through holes in the others.
