Sept. 24, 1930, No. 28629. [Classes 83 (iii) and 83 (iv).] Attachments for drilling ; cutters.-An extrusion press for forming tubes, especially for coating cables, has a cutting attachment comprising a tubular cutter which may be fed forward in the space normally occupied by the die to sever the residue. A lead-coating cable press comprises a lead chamber 1 fed from an inlet 4, the metal being extruded round a mandrel 10 and through a die by a hydraulic plunger 5. After the operation the die is removed and a cutting tool 18 is screwed in its place. Rotation of the tool by a splined worm wheel 20 thereby causes it to be fed forward to a position shown by an indicator carried thereon, in which the cutting- edge is separated from the mandrel by a thin shell only of metal. This shell may be broken through and the mandrel removed by a conical member 26 operated from the hydraulic ram of the press.
