Abstract

1314898 Extrusion presses K GARTNER 27 July 1970 [26 July 1969] 36340/70 Heading B3P An extrusion press comprises a container 3 to receive an aluminium billet 5 and a die 12 mounted on the end of a hollow stem 11 over which the container is pushed by a ram 15 releasably locked thereto prior to the extrusion of the billet through the die. The container is loaded with a billet at 500‹ C. by the ram which is operated by a double-acting piston-cylinder unit 6, 13. At the end of the extrusion the container abuts a fixed stop plate 10. The ram is locked to the container 3 by a bayonet fitting to withdraw it to its loading position after extrusion. The fitting is then disconnected to allow further retraction of the ram to its original position, Fig. 1. The fitting consists of an annular collar 24 with bayonet slots (29), Fig. 9 (not shown), fixed to the container and a disc 23 with projections (28), Fig. 10 (not shown), on the ram. The disc is rotated using a hand lever (30). The discord is sheared using a hydraulically operated shear blade 26 which passes through a slot in a rim on the plate 24. The container has an electric heater.
