Abstract
363,415. Two-part couplings ; junction boxes. PRESTON, K. H., 1A, Cockspur Street, London. Sept. 24, 1930, Nos. 28588 and 33178. [Class 38 (i).] A coupling for electric cables used on electric vehicles comprises a thimble 11, Fig. 1, through which the cable passes having at one end a gland 14 for gripping the cable and at the other end a reduced portion fitted with a nut 15 so that it may be mounted in a bell 1. A disc 5 of insulating m a - terial mounted in the bell supports contacts 3 and cable connections 4. By removing the nut 15 and the screws 6 the bell may be slipped back along the cable thus leaving the gland and the connections exposed. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the thimble is bored from the outer end to receive the gland. Fig. 4 shows the invention applied to a terminal box. The thimble 11 is mounted in a cylindrical projection 17 from the box. When an armoured cable is used the armouring may be bent back and sweated to the gland 11 as indicated in Figs. 1 and 4.
