Abstract

286,344. English, J. R. Nov. 29, 1926. Cable couplings; plug couplings.-A cable is fitted with a sealing and coupling attachment consisting of a divided box a that encloses terminal sockets t mounted in a pair of insulating discs x, y and has at the other end a clamping device for the cable armouring consisting of a gland h, Fig. 1, with a flange i by which it is bolted to the coned end of the box a. Alternatively a clamp m, Fig. 6, in two parts held together by bolts n is furnished with a flange o having slots p, the wires k of the armouring being bent outwardly beyond the flange o and in the slots p. The socket t consists of a divided cylinder having a flat spiral spring w coiled in a recess on the socket. The moulding discs x, y are recessed to receive the sockets between them and are secured in place by a screw z and dowels 1, 2. A blank disc is fitted to the end of the box a to cover the contacts when not in use, and the end of the box is faced to form an earthcontinuity coupling with the corresponding plug element, a resilient washer being interposed.
