To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that LREUBEN B. BENJAMIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State ofy Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adapters,pof which the following is a full, clear, concise, .and exact descriptlon, reference being had to the accom panying drawing, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to adapters, and more particularly to an adapter used for connection with a contact portion of an Edison plug to adapt the same for cooperation with Aa receptacle of th'e Hubbell type.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide an adapter which Will be cheap to manufacture, simple f in construction, and durable and ecient in use.
Further objects will appear from the detailed description to follow and from the appended clalms.
In the drawings in which one embodiment of my invention is shown;

The construction shown in the drawings comprises in a general way a socket portion 10 to be screwed onto the threaded shell contact of an attachment plug, and a pair of contact blades 11 and 12 electrically connected with the side and center contacts 13 and 14 respectively of the socket portion 10. The blades 11 and 12 may be so proportioned and spaced apart as to properly enter the slots of a receptacle of the Hubbell type and engage the contacts thereof.
It w1l1thus`be seen that an adapter is providedywhich can be screwed vonto the ordinary attachment plug of the screw-in type, which will adapt' this attachment plug to the Hubbell type` of receptacle. The adapter may simply be left on the plug and the plug in comblnation with the adapter becomes a 1920. Serial No. 396,197.

In order to insulate the threaded shell contact 13, it is surrounded by an insulating sleeve' 15, an ornamental sheet metal finishing casing 16 being provided outside of the fibre sleeve 15.
Referringnow more in detail to the construction, the contact blades `11 and 12 are secured to the shell and center contacts 10 and 14 respectively by means of rivets 17, a pair of insulating discs or washers 18 and 19 respectively being provided to hold the contact blades 11 and 12 and the receptacle contacts 10 and 14 in their proper relative position and to provide the required insulation. The rivets 17 extend through these washers or discsalso whereby the entire construction is firmly secured together and properly supported and insulated. The two washers 18 and 19 alsoserve to hold the insulating sleeve and the ornamental housing 16 in place as these have inwardly extending lange portions 20 and 21 respectively, which are clamped between the washers 18 and 19.k It will be noted that the blades 11 and 12 are identical in construction. They may conveniently beformed as sheet metal stampings, using the cam dies for both.
In order to prevent the ornamental casing .16 from slipping or turning on the insulating sleeve 15 when a plug is screwed into the adapter, the casing 16 has a pair of lugs 22 struck up therefrom (Figs. 4 and 5) which extend upwardly into registering slots or apertures in the upper disc 19 to prevent relativerotation between the casing 16 and the disc 19.
The upper Washer 19 is provided with a pair of slots 23' (Fig. 1) through which the blades 11 and 12 may extend andthe 'inner insulating disc 18 is provided with a slot 424 through which the center contact 14 may extend in position to beengaged by the center contact of the plug (Figs. 2 and 3).
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An adapter having a receptacle portion for screwing ontol a screw shell plug, and a contact blade for inserting into a receptacle, said receptacle portion comprising a t readed shell contact, and a center contact, said center contact having a base portion, said blade having a base portion engaging the base portion of said center contact, an insulating disc inside said threaded shell contact, having an opening through which said center contact extends and an insulating disc outside said threaded shell.` contact having an opening through which said blade extends, said base portions being clamped between said discs.
2. An adapter comprising a receptacle portion for screwing onto a screw shell plug, and a contact blade for inserting into a receptacle, said receptacle portion comprising a threaded shell contact having a flange portion, and said contact blade having a base portion engaging said ange, an insulating washer inside Said threaded shell contact, an insulating washer outside said threaded Shell contact having an opening through which said blade extends, said iange and base por; tions being clamped between said washers.
3. An adapter comprising a receptacle portion for screwing onto a screw shell plug, and a contact blade for inserting into a receptacle, said receptacle portion comprising a threaded shell contact having a ange portion, and said contact blade having `a base portion engaging said ilange, an insulating washer inside said threaded. shell contact, an insulating washer outside said threaded shell contact having an openin through which said blade extends, said ange and base portions being clamped between said washers, and rivets extending through said contact discs for securing the parts together.
