Abstract
In introducing caesium into luminous electric discharge tubes, caesium salts such as the chloride or nitrate are reduced by rare earth metals which do not vaporize during the reaction. Lanthanum or cerium or both metals together or alloys thereof with base metals such as iron and nickel are preferably used, but praseodymium, neodymium, and samarium are also referred to. The reaction mixture may be placed in or near an electrode chamber and heated by high-frequency currents.
