Abstract

361,928. Reels for cables. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Bush House, Aldwych, London.-(Bell Telephone Laboratories Inc.; 463, West Street, New York, U.S.A.) Aug. 27, 1930, No. 25626. [Class 99 (iil.) A reel for cables comprises two metallic heads 10, lags 41 for enclosing the cable 26, and an annular channel member 37 secured to each head to receive the ends of the lags for securing them to the reel. Each head comprises a hub 11, a disc 12, and angle-bars 15, welded to the hub and disc, and forming spokes. A drum 25 is secured by annular anglebars 27 to the heads. The annular I-bars 37 are welded to the spokes, and the cable is enclosed by annular plates 35 which are spot welded to the spokes and I-bars. The lags are of channel section, and are passed into position through slots in the I-bars which are closed by pivoted strips. The lags, when not in use, may be tied in bundles and secured to the discs 12 as shown at 58. The drum may comprise a number of sections 25, Fig. 7, supported by a tube 69 and discs 70 connected by angle-bars 27, 71 to the drum and tube.
