Abstract
<PICT:0361856/III/1> Apparatus for destructive hydrogenation and other reactions with carbonaceous materials in presence of hydrogen is constructed of or coated with an iron alloy practically free from nickel and containing substituted amounts of chromium and molybdenum. The chromium content may be 3-18 per cent and the molybdenum content 0,2-3 per cent. Tungsten, vanadium, cobalt, aluminium, or manganese may also be included in the alloy. The Figure shows an apparatus for destructive hydrogenation comprising a preheating coil F, high-pressure reaction vessel B containing a catalyst of molybdic acid and zinc oxide, and condenser D. The preheater, the connecting pipes C, C1, and the lining G of the reaction vessel are composed of a steel containing 6 per cent of chromium, 0,5 per cent of molybdenum, 0,3 per cent of vanadium, and 0,1 per cent of carbon, the remainder being iron.ALSO:Apparatus for destructive hydrogenation and other reactions with carbonaceous materials and hydrogen is constructed of iron alloys containing substantial amounts of chromium (e.g. 3-18 per cent) and molybdenum (e.g. 0,2-3 per cent), but practically free from nickel. Tungsten, vanadium, cobalt, aluminium, and manganese may be included in the alloy. An example is a steel containing 6 per cent of chromium, 0,5 per cent of molybdenum, 0,3 per cent of vanadium, and 0,1 per cent of carbon, the remainder being iron.
