Abstract
361,007. Heating water. WRIGHT, A., 28, Lingfield Avenue, Kingston-on- Thames, and OSBORN, H. J., Haytor, Danbury, Essex. Aug. 23, 1930, No. 25202. [Class 64 (i).] In a water heater, scale deposit on the heating element or the chamber containing it is reduced by providing a condensing surface which returns the condensate to the chamber containing the heating element so that the latter is in contact only with soft water. In Fig. 1, the storage vessel 2 is provided with a conical cover 3 which conducts condensate into the chamber 1 containing an electric heating element 11 and thermostat 12. A filling tube 9 with cap 10 is provided. Heated water is drawn off through a pipe 7 surrounded by a pipe 6 perforated at 8 just below the top of the pipe 7. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), a water-supply tank is arranged above the tank 2 to which it is connected by water and air inlet pipes. In another modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the heating chamber 1 surrounds the storage chamber 2 and is heated by electric heaters around its lower part. In another modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), an additional condensing surface is provided in the form of a cylinder arranged above the conical cover. In another modification, Fig. 5, heating is effected by a gas burner 21 surrounded by a flue 20.
