Abstract
360,403. Sifting and separating apparatus. BRAMWELL, I. L., Wentworth House, Station Road, and BIRTLEY CO., Ltd., (formerly BIRTLEY IRON CO., Ltd.), both in Birtley, Co. Durham. April 28, 1930, No. 13043. [Class 117.] Reciprocating masses 6 such as coal &c. cleaning tables, screens, conveyers &c., are supported on links or toggles, and a tie rod 7 which connects the mass to an arm 5 clamped to the free end of a torsion bar 1 which is rigidly secured at one end and at the other end is free to twist about a pivot 4 substantially on the centre line of the bar. Preferably the rod 7 has knife-edge bearings 8 to allow movement relatively to the connected parts, and the torsion bar is put under initial stress so that driving stresses are always in the same sense. The tie rods 7 may be in form of flexible wire ropes, and the driving means preferably comprise eccentrics of small throw.
