Abstract

Inks, paints, varnishes, lacquers, and the like comprising a pigment in an oily vehicle are mixed in the presence of an oil-soluble product obtained from the upper layer resulting from the treatment of mineral oil with strong or fuming sulphuric acid or sulphuric anhydride to ensure complete dispersion of the pigment. The sulphonates are separated from the oil by treatment with alcoholic solvents and distillation. From 1 to 10 per cent by weight of the sulphonate is added, 5 per cent being specified in examples.
