Abstract
Paints or enamels are prepared from natural or artificial asphalts treated in the molten condition with such siccative substances as heavy metal resinates, naphthenates, sulphonates, linoleates or mixtures thereof with alkali or alkaline-earth salts. The proportion is preferably from 3-10 per cent. In an example an enamel is prepared from a mixture of 75 per cent of Miri asphalt treated with 3,5-4 per cent of manganese resinate and 25 per cent of mineral oil of turpentine.ALSO:Asphalts are treated in the molten condition with such siccative substances as heavy metal resinates, naphthenates, sulphonates, linoleates or mixtures thereof with alkali or alkalineearth salts. The proportion is preferably from 3 to 10 per cent. The term asphalts includes all those solid or semi-solid bituminous substances occurring naturally or obtained artificially by the treatment of mineral oils. The products may be used in the production of paints or enamels. In an example Miri asphalt is treated while molten with 3,5 to 4 per cent of manganese resinate. A mixture of 75 per cent of the product with 25 per cent of mineral oil of turpentine yields an enamel.
