Abstract
359,707. Supply systems. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Gay, F. W. ; 43, Myrtle Avenue, Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Oct. 20, 1930, No. 31424. Convention date, Oct. 19, 1929. [Class 38 (iv).] Running generators in parallel; systems depending on static transformers ; doubly-wound generators, with.-In a system supplying generators with two or more separate generating windings the effects of a short-circuit on one winding and on the voltage of the remaining winding are minimized by inductive means connected between each generating winding and the distribution circuit,. or portion thereof, which it supplies, and arranged so that, while they couple the windings inductively, the resultant magnetomotive force is substantially zero when a predetermined division of current exists between them. The Figure shows a system in which the generating windings 10, 11 are connected respectively through coils 16, 17 of a differential reactor or balancing transformer and isolating switches to independent bus-bar sections 2, 3 supplying feeders 5, 6 and provided with a sectionalizing switch 8. The coils 16, 17 may be wound on a common core 18 or inductively related with an air core. In the former case the mutual coupling is preferably not greater than 30 per cent. In a modification each generating winding feeds through a differential reactor coil into a separate transformer winding on a common core wound also with windings connected one to each bus section. Single winding generators may be combined in a similar way with multiple winding generators. Specifications 299,813 and 311,344, [both in Class 38 (iv), Electric supply and transmission systems &c.], are referred to.
