Abstract

Alloy steels containing manganese, chromium, nickel, cobalt, vanadium, molybdenum, tungsten and zirconium are cast centrifugally and then nitrogenized by being heated to 480-580 DEG C. in a stream of anhydrous ammonia gas. Before being nitrogenized, the casting may be quenched in oil at 820-920 DEG C. and then tempered at 300-700 DEG C. A steel containing 0,15-0,65 per cent of carbon, 0,1-0,4 of silicon, 0,4-0,75 of manganese, 1,0-1,5 of aluminium, 0,9-1,75 of chromium, and 0,1-0,75 of molybdenum is referred to. Specifications 174,580, 243,613, and 272,182, [all in Class 82 (i), Metals, Extracting &c.], are referred to.
