359,320. Refractometers. ZEISS, C., [Firm of], Carl-Zeiss-Strasse, Jena, Germany. Jan. 12, 1931, No. 960. Convention date, Jan. 14, 1930. [Class 97 (i).] In a refractometer operating by total reflection and having a scale in the field of view of the observing telescope, a plane parallel plate inclined to, and rotatable about, the axis of the telescope is provided to enable the boundarv line of the reflection field to be brought into coincidence with one of the division lines of the scale. The instrument comprises a telescope a with the scale plate a<3> in its image plane and a measuring prism b in contact with an illumination prism b<1> in front of the objective a<1>. The inclined parallel-sided plate c is mounted in a rotatable ring d on which is marked a scale, the index for which is marked on a separate adjustable ring e.
