Abstract

Salts of hydrofluosilicic acid are produced by mixing fluorides with a solution of hydrofluosilicic acid, containing preferably 30-50 per cent by weight of acid, and introducing silicon fluoride. Alkali, alkaline-earth, ammonium or other metallic silicofluorides may be thus produced. The acid acts catalytically, but when siliceous fluor-spar is employed, it is also in part used up in the reaction. Heat or pressure or both may be employed. Soluble silicofluorides produced may be treated with other salts to give selected silicofluorides Thus sodium silicofluoride may be obtained from the calcium salt.
