Abstract

357,873. Presses for separating liquids from solids. HARTNER, H. A., 45, Bygdo-Alle, Oslo, Norway. Dec. 10, 1930, No. 37276. [Class 46.] An extrusion press for the separation of liquid from, and compression of, sludge pulp or fatty materials, for example herring pulp, is arranged so that the axial distance of the feeding point from the point where the pressing action of the screw ceases can be varied. This may be done by providing the casing 3, Fig. 1, with alternative inlets 5, 6, 7 which can be used independently. As shown in Fig. 2, a feed hopper 8 is arranged on a slide 9 which can be adjusted over a longitudinal slot 10 in the casing 3. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the whole casing with the feed hopper 4 is movable relatively to the screw 1, the screw body having a cylindrical portion at the outlet end. The invention may be applied to presses in which two or more screws work side-by-side or to presses with multiple-thread screws.
