959,481. Presses for separating liquids from solids. BAUER BROS. CO. July 20, 1961 [Aug. 11, 1960], No. 26421/61. Heading B1D. [Also in Division D2] Wet material (e.g. paper pulp) fed in at 47, Fig. 1, is traversed by intermeshing contrarotating screws 39, 41, Fig. 3, along a cage 36 formed of rods 44 and rings 45. Residue is finally discharged at 28 in a direction at right angles to the cage axis by a further screw 32 rotated by a separate motor (not shown). The back-pressure on the material in cage 36 is regulated by adjusting the relative speeds of rotation of, on the one hand, screw 32 and, on the other hand, the pair of screws 39, 41.
