Abstract
357,674. Coin - freed apparatus. AVERY, Ltd., W. & T. and LEESON, A., Soho Foundry, Birmingham. July 12, 1930, No. 21125. [Class 27.] Testing coins.-In a coin-testing device for use with coin-freed apparatus, the coins roll down a longitudinally and laterally inclined shoot 5a, Fig. 1, of channel section, the web 5b of which is provided with rectangular openings 5c, 5d for rejecting undersized coins. The height of the openings is adjusted by a gauge plate 6 secured to the shoot by screws 7. Two counterbalanced levers, the lower arms 10a Fig. 4, of which are of skeleton formation, are pivoted in brackets 9 with the openings in the arms 10a corresponding with the openings 5c, 5d. The front sides of the arms 10a, under the action of adjustable counterweights 11 on threaded arms 10c, constitute a continuation of the track on which the coins run. An overweight coin of correct size tilts the first lever and falls through the opening 5c and through the gap in its arm 10a to a rejection receptacle. A coin of correct size and weight passes the first lever but tilts the second lever to fall through the gap 5d and be led to the operative mechanism of the coin-freed machine. A light coin passes over both levers direct to the rejection receptacle. The front sides of the gapped arms 10a are provided with short upstanding flanges 10b which deflect rejected coins through the openings in the shoot.
