357,597. Photographic developing and drying apparatus. FADER, R., 40, Madrid Road, Barnes, and LESLIE, H. F., 74A, Regent Street, both in London. March 27, 1930, No. 9844. [Class 98 (ii).] In apparatus for passing cut sheets of paper or film of different lengths and widths through one or a series of treating tanks and/or drying apparatus, the sheets are clipped at both ends on to bars or strips which can be detachably secured to two parallel endless travelling chains which pass through the apparatus. The sheets may be attached at one end 19, Fig. 1, of the apparatus as the chains 6 are travelling, and detached there : or, alternatively a projection 53 at the other end of the apparatus may be arranged automatically to release the sheets 8 from the clips. The chains comprise hinged links 54, Fig. 3, with lateral projections 55, 56 and are driven by sprocket rollers 57, 58 on a series of rollers 7. The rollers 7 are driven by a worm shaft 37 extending along the machine. The transverse strips 63 have pins 73 to engage holes 62 in the chain links and are locked by sliding pieces having a forked end, thumb manipulating projections 74 and spring friction tongues 76. The sheets are secured to the strips by a pivoted clip 68, Fig. 7, having dents 70, 71 springing on projections 66, 67 on the strip 63. To release the sheets the end 77 of the clip 68 has a pin 531 which engages the shaped projection 53 on the framework. The chains pass under rollers 18 in the baths and return over rollers 43, 44, 45 and a roller 46 on a weighted lever 49. The treating tanks 9 .. 16 are arranged in a bolted framework. The tanks 15, 16 may contain spirit and be supported on the framework of the drying chamber 29 into which hot air may be introduced from a heater 33 and drawn through by a fan 32.
