Abstract

467,253. Drying printed sheets. STURM, F. W. J. H. P., and LUNE, R. C. F. Sept. 9, 1935, No. 25079. Void. Convention date, Sept. 10, 1934. [Class 34 (ii)] [Also in Group XVI] In apparatus for drying printed sheets delivered from a duplicating device, the sheets are arranged successively on movable carriers on which they are carried for a certain distance while being heated, thereafter being discharged. In the construction shown, the carriers, each adapted to receive a sheet delivered in a horizontal position, comprise troughs 1 pivotally connected by levers 8 to two endless chains 2 which are mounted on chain wheels 3, 4, adapted to be driven intermittently through ratchet gearing. Each of the levers adjacent the downwardly-moving portions of the endless chains is adapted to bear against the lever immediately below so that the troughs are supported in horizontal positions. Beneath each trough is an electric heating element, the ends of which are connected to contact springs 11 adapted to engage contact bars 12. The elements heat both sides of the printed sheets. As the troughs move round the lower wheels they are tilted so that the sheets are discharged.
