Abstract
357,450. Indicating-apparatus. CAMBRIDGE INSTRUMENT CO.; Ltd., MASON, C. C., and STALLAN, W. J., Chesterton Road, Cambridge. Dec. 24, 1930, No. 38908. [Class 106 (iv).] In a measuring instrument the scale of readings is modified by means associated with the pointer and adapted to vary its pivotal point to alter suddenly the ratio of movement of the pointer with respect to that of the moving mechanism. As shown a pointer 1 is pivoted at 2 to a spring-controlled link 3 itself pivoted on a fixed pivot 4. The operating mechanism, e.g. a Bourdon tube, is attached to the point 9 of the pointer and stops 10, 11 are provided to obstruct the free movement of the pointer beyond the points 7, 12 of the scale 8. Movement of the point 9 to the left of the position shown in full lines will cause the pointer to rotate about the stop 10 as a pivot thus reducing abruptly the magnification of the movement. Similarly movement to the right beyond the dotted line position reduces the magnification beyond the point 12 of the scale. The stops 10, 11 may be placed in any desired relative positions with respect to each other and to the pivot 2.
