Abstract
356,810. Combing machines. WHITIN MACHINE WORKS, Whitinsville, Massachusetts, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Barker, D.; Whitinsville, Massachusetts, U.S.A.) June 13, 1930, No. 18173. Convention date, Aug. 24, 1929. [Class 120 (i).] In a Heilmann or like combing-machine a tuftdeflecting lip 16, Fig. 2, is loosely mounted on the upper nipper jaw 6 and is movable parallel thereto, stop means, such as fingers 20, Figs. 3 and 4, secured at the edges to the bottom of the lower jaw or cushion plate 4, being provided so that the lip 16 is always held in the same position relative to the lower jaw, i.e. at the closest setting desired to the path of the needles on the combing cylinder, and independently of the thickness of the lap. The lower jaw 4 is formed with a rounded bead 14 and the bottom edge of the nipper knife 6 is longitudinally grooved to correspond, the groove being formed with a front wall 15. The lip 16 is secured to the upper nipper 6 by screws 17 engaging elongated slots 18 while the stop fingers 20 are adapted to engage notches 19 in the corners of the lip 16.
