Abstract
356,676. Glass manufacture. MISSISSIPPI GLASS CO., 220, 5th Avenue, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Aurien, G. ; 110, Ferry Street, St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A.) March 5, 1930, No. 7170. Convention date, May 20, 1929. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 56.] Rolling.-Relates to the method of making sheet glass in which molten glass 10, Fig. 1, flows between rollers 12, 14 and is formed into a continuous strip 16 which passes over a sloping apron 18 on to conveying-rollers 20. The first section of the apron is divided by a partition 24, Fig. 3, into two chambers 26, 28. A pipe 30 extends through the chamber 26 and carries water which is sprayed through holes 32 against the underside of the cover-plate 34. Air under pressure is supplied by a pipe 40 to the chamber 28, and escapes through nozzles 42 distributed across the apron. The air forms a cushion between the roller 14 and the newly-formed sheet and over the top of the apron for a portion of its length. The air also assists in cooling the roller 14.
