Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce beam blanks at high efficiency and stable quality by rolling flanges by driving vertical rolls and rolling webs with horizontal rolls which are made idle rolls in producing rough-shape blooms for large H steels using universal rolling mills. CONSTITUTION:Flat blooms of large sizes (sectional area 0.2m<2> or over and the ratios between sectional thickness and width are preferably 1:2.5 to 6) are rolled at plural passes by using universal rolling mills in which vertical rolls are made drive rolls and horizontal rolls made idle rolls. Beam blanks for large size H steels are producd by reducing down the flanges with the vertical rolls and webs with the horizontal rolls. Here, the draft by the vertical rolls is taken larger than the draft by the horizontal rolls to make the differences of the drafts of the passes of the former steps larger. Thi method enables the large size H steels to be produced from flat blooms without reheating and without providing any special rolling equipment trains.
