Abstract
<PICT:0356470/IV/1> Two cylinders 2, 3, Fig. 1, on which the fabric is wound alternately, bear buoyantly against the driven conveyer drum 1 so as to be rotated by contact with the drum. The cylinders may be constructed as closed hollow bodies, or may be pressed against the drum by means of separate floats. Means may be provided to regulate the amount of buoyancy of the cylinders. Small weights 14, 15 are built into the hollow cylinders in the vicinity of the points of attachment of the fabric length and in such position relative thereto that in initial turning they tend to roll up the section of the fabric length between the drum and the cylinders and to keep the fabric tensioned during reversal. In operation, the cylinder 2, for example, is depressed by means of the members 10, 12 so that it no longer bears against the conveyer drum, which is so driven as to convey the fabric to the cylinder 3. At the same time a very light braking action is applied on the shafts of the cylinders, more particularly in order to compensate for the excess weight of the more heavily loaded cylinder. On reversal, the weights 12, 13 are so moved that the unwinding cylinder is kept out of contact with the drum. This operation, as also the forward and backward movement of the conveyer drum, can be effected either by hand or automatically.
