Abstract
355,817. Positive clutches. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., Union Works, Belgrave Road, Leicester.- (United Shoe Machinery Corporation ; 140, Federal Street, Boston, U.S.A.) May 30, 1930, No. 16710. [Class 80 (ii).] A shoe-lasting machine is drawn by a worm 890 gearing with a worm-wheel provided with internal ratchet teeth 898. A member 894 is keyed to the cam-shaft and carries a rooking segmental key for engaging the teeth 898 when rocked in one direction, and thus connecting the worm-wheel and cam shaft. This member is rocked by an arm 910, its movement being limited by a pin 906 secured to it and moving in an arcuate slot in the member 894. The arm 910 is urged by a spring 912 to operative position, where it is, normally, held by a latch 918. A pivoted arm 914 carries a plate 916 co-operating with the pin 906. In operation, when the work has been positioned, the attendant swings a toe-presser foot over the shoe. This movement is caused to engage the clutch, connections between the presserfoot and the arm 914 including a pull rod 934 with a hooked end. Near the end of the machine's cycle, a lug 944 trips the latch 918, the hooked rod 934 having been released by a lug 942 shortly after the start of the machine to allow the plate 916 to fall into the path of the pin 906. By contact of these parts the machine is stopped at the conclusion of one revolution of the cam shaft.
