Abstract

444,304. Sewing-machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO., Elizabeth, and GUNTHER, H., 852, Livingston Street, Elizabeth, New Jersey, U.S.A. Nov. 13, 1935, No. 31380. Addition to 425,587. [Class 112] The stop motion device described in the parent Specification is simplified to avoid any of the working parts of the machine taking the strain caused by stopping. The operation is as follows : in Fig. 1, the pin 40 on the arm 36 is in the hole 41 in the feed cam and the stop-rod 31 is engaged by the stop-lug 9 in the hand-wheel 7 blocking the forward movement thereof. The operator places a button and material in the clamp 19 and pushes down the button 38 whereupon the pin 40 is withdrawn from the hole 41 and the spring 33 shifts the stop rod 31 and arm 36 to the position shown in Fig. 4 in which the end 32 of the stop-rod is out of range of the lug 9 on the hand wheel and the pin 40 is displaced to one side of the hole 41 in the feed cam. Hence the push button may be released. The machine is now free to be driven through a sewing cycle during which the feed cams 20, 21 make one complete revolution. When the hole 41 comes into register with the pin 40, the pin snaps into the hole and the lug 9 is about 180‹ from its final stopping position. Continued movement of the hand wheel 7 causes the cam 20 to drive the parts to final stopping position, the rod 31 being projected by the arm 36 into the range of the stop lug 9. The strain of stopping is borne directly by the shaft 6 and not the feed cam and worm-gearing 22, 24.
