Abstract
354,045. Cupping. RODE, F. J., 6500, West 65th Street, Chicago, U.S.A. July 29, 1930, No. 22780. [Class 83 (iv).] The draw-ring of a cupping-press is resiliently supported by a piston 20 in the cylinder 19 the force on the piston causing the liquid pressure to open the piston valve 29 allowing the liquid to flow through ports 30 into the larger concentric cylinder 18 which is supplied with regulatable air pressure from a pipe 41. The piston valve 29 is held up by regulatable air pressure on pistons 34, 35 in intercommunicating cylinders. Ports 28a allow liquid to escape from the back of the piston valve 29 and exits 39, 40 are provided in the cylinders 31, 32 for a similar purpose. The first shock of cupping is relieved by movement of a plunger 53 backed by fluid pressure on a piston 54. After cupping the work is ejected by the trapped air pressure in the chamber 18 forcing liquid back into the cylinder 19 through the one-way valve 24, thus raising the draw-ring. The required amount of liquid is poured into the chamber 18 through the funnel 45, its level being shown by a gauge glass 47. A draining pipe 48 is provided in the bottom.
