Abstract

348,365. Hydraulic vanes. KNOWLES, J. A., 40, Portland Street, Accrington. May 6, 1930, No. 13853. [Class 102 (ii).] In an hydraulic ram the stroke of the waste valve B is automatically varied in accordance with the supply of water. For this purpose a cistern G, having a leakage orifice e, is supplied by an over-flow pipe d from the feed well which supplies the ram. A float b<s> is carried by a lever b<4>, having an adjustable counterweight b<6>, and acting on the stem of the valve B against the action of a spring b<1>. In a modification, a float in the feed well is directly connected to the valve stem by means of a chain &c. In other modifications the cistern G is mounted on the valve stem, or on a lever acting on the valve stem, to act as a variable load. Alternatively a piston or diaphragm in the cistern may act on the valve stem.
