Abstract

352,333. Pistons. SUNBEAM MOTOR CAR CO., Ltd. and COATALEN, L., Moorfield Works, Wolverhampton. Sept. 27, 1930, No. 28996. [Class 122 (i).] In pistons of the type comprising a light metal crown and ferrous skirt connected by the gudgeon pin, the skirt is manufactured from a thick gauge tube 2. After boring the latter to finished size, holes 8 are drilled diametrically opposite and the surrounding metal pressed inwardly to form gudgeon pin bosses 9. The outside of the tube is then machined, hardened and ground, after which slots 11 are cut in the lower end to permit natural expansion.
