Abstract

351,353. Hats. EVE, F. H., 59, Conway Road, and WOOD, W. J., 129, Ashburnam Road, both in Luton. Sept. 29, 1930, No. 29172. [Class 63.] In a felt-clipping machine for use in the manufacture of hats, the work supporting roller is reversible, end for end, and its driving mechanism is reversible, so that when a cut has been made in one direction, the work may be reversed on the support and a cut made in the opposite direction. Clippers 12 are driven from an electric motor through a variable-speed belt drive and friction gearing 14, 15 which may be disengaged by swinging a bracket 16 by a handle 21. A reversing gear 31 operated by a handle 36 is driven from the motor and rotates a work-supporting roller 22 carried on a bracket 23 through a flexible drive 32 and bevel gearing, the work being swung up to the cutter by a pedal 27. The bracket 23 is carried in a socket 24 in line with the centre of the work roller so that by releasing a nut 25 the roller may be turned through 180‹ while remaining in operative position with respect to the cutter. The rotation of the roller may actuate the reversing gear 31.
