Abstract
410,918. Concrete mixers. LANGFORD, H., 96, Plymouth Place, Leamington Spa, and WINGET, Ltd., The Cape, Warwick. Jan. 28, 1933, No. 2775. [Class 86.] In a concrete mixer mounted on wheels, the power means to raise the hopper is utilized to propel the vehicle simultaneously for a short distance. A rope 13, wound on a drum on the back axle 4, is unwound as the hopper rises and the machine is caused to advance ; simultaneously another rope 30 is uncoiled from a drum 26, containing a helical spring, on to another drum integral with the first drum on the axle 4 ; on lowering the hopper, the rope 13 is rewound on its drum which may be allowed to rotate freely backward on the axle by pawl and ratchet mechanism ; or the drum may be rewound by hand. Clutch mechanism may be provided to free the drum on the axle 4 so that, if desired, the machine is not moved when the hopper is raised. Ropes, one of which is shown at 8, connected to pulleys on a shaft driven by the engine, are used to raise and lower the hopper. In a modification where the hopper is slidably raised instead of pivoting, duplicate drum mechanisms are provided on the rear axle, and the ropes from these are attached to drums connected by clutch mechanism to a shaft used for raising or lowering the hopper.
