UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFC.
EMIL MADISON, OF HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
SAWING-MACHINE.
Application filed August 14, 1918. Serial No.,249,882.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL MADISON, a citizen of the United States, residing at I-Ioboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sawing-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sawing machines and particularly to machines for sawing standing timber and has for its primary object the provision of a machine of this character which will be light, strong and durable, and of a design whereby it can be readily manipulated and adjusted against its work during the sawing operation.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangements of parts which will hereinafter be fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, has been illustrated, a single and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitations are necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claim may be resorted to when desired.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side view of the machine showing parts in section.
Fig. 2 is a front view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Fig. 1.
The machine comprises a frame 5 which includes a short standard 6 and a long standard 7, the latter having a short connecting branch 8 at its upper end which is suitably fastened in some well known manner to the short standard 6. At the opposite end the long standard is provided with a lateral branch or short arm 9, having a bearing 10 arranged in vertical alinement with a bearing 11 at the lower end of the short standard 6. The said long standard is also pro- Specification of Letters Patent.
vided with an arm 12 superimposed with respect to the arm 9 and provided with a bearing 13.
In the bearings 10, 11 and 12, a shaft 14 is mounted to revolve, the same carrying a circular saw 15. Said saw is mounted beneath the bearing 10 and between the bearings 11 and 13, the shaft 14 is provided with a fixed driven gear wheel 16.
The vertical standard 7 is provided with a bearing 17 and a lateral handle 18, the latter and the former accommodating therein a rotary driving shaft 19 which may be connected with any suitable well known source of motive power. Said shaft carries a power transmitting gear wheel 20 arranged in mesh with the gear wheel 16 so that power from the latter will be taken to the former to revolve the saw 15 as desired. The standard 6 is provided with a hand grip 21 adapted to co-act with the lateral handle 18 to permit the machine to be firmly held and steadied against its work during the sawing operation.
What is claimed as new is A sawing machine comprising a frame having vertical standards of relatively different lengths, one of said standards having a branch arm terminating in a bearing beneath the vertical center of the other standard, said other standard having a bearing aiined with said first bearing, a shaft journaled in said bearings, a saw mounted on the shaft at the lower end thereof, a fixed driven gear wheel on said shaft, a handle extending laterally of the long standard and fixed thereto, a power transmitting shaft journaled in the handle and in said long standard and provided with a driving gear wheel meshing with said driven gear wheel and a vertical hand grip rising from the upper end of the short standard in proximity to the lateral handle, as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
EMIL MADISON.
